TRAVEL TOURS NEPAL
Muktinath is one of Nepal's most sacred pilgrimage sites, sitting at about 3,800 metres in the Mustang region. Hindus and Buddhists both revere it as a place of liberation — Mukti Kshetra to one, Chumig Gyatsa to the other.
Pilgrims bathe under the 108 water spouts that ring the temple, and the eternal flame behind it burns on natural gas seeping from the rock. Getting there is half the journey: the road runs up the Kali Gandaki between Dhaulagiri and Annapurna, past apple orchards, stone villages and wind-scoured cliffs.
